Overgrown

If unchecked by man, Florida’s warm and humid environment leads to rapid overgrowth of foliage, vines and flowers. Our subtropical landscape reflects a wild energy that feels both invasive and intimate. This work is an abstraction of this phenomenon—an attempt to capture the tension between nature’s unstoppable force and the quiet beauty that persists beneath the chaos.

Materials: Commercial cotton, monopoly thread, wool/rayon batting, cotton batik backing
Techniques: Improvisational piecing, machine quilting
